The noise in the gardens now is almost deafening. Leaves on the trees are unfurling at a great rate of knots and positively “whirring”. Small birds whizz about busily making nests whilst singing at the tops of their voices.. There’s also an exceedingly noisy pheasant who shouts to his girl friend in the big field whilst he sits on one of the walls sticking two claws up to the three large labradors who sit dribbling and watching him from the garden. In the fields surrounding us, sheep are shouting for food, for their friends, for the heck of it. And yet… it’s peaceful and calming We’re racing to stay of top of the beast that is the garden.
If we get it right now, we just may stay in control for the rest of the year. That’s plan A! It’s so beautiful here whether it’s pouring with rain or snowing or glorious sunshine. Every where you look is a wow. The gardens are laid out as a series of rooms ranging from a formal walled garden to an orchard to a tiny plantation to a cutting garden….. Everything was designed with skill, a vast knowledge of plants and planting and an eye for beauty. Our job is simply to ensure things evolve and improve.
One of the big projects is to ensure our “rest and be thankful” benches are all in the right place to slow the pace and encourage friends, family, visitors (and us) to stop in one of the garden ‘rooms’ and just take a moment to be and watch the clouds go by and the last two benches have now arrived and await bottoms to sit on them and just …be
